Vegan R&D

It’s been over a month since my last entry. I’ve continued to juggle the 2 jobs and everything is going well, but that does not mean that I’m not thinking about Yoga-urt all of the time. I am.

I’m still hoping that I can save enough money this year so I can get a loan next year and open Yoga-urt. I’m happy with that plan but started to think about what I could do over the next 6 months to keep things moving in the right direction, and not spend too much money.

It was pretty clear that the answer was R&D on the Vegan product. When I had the idea 3 years ago to do this business, there really weren’t any vegan flavors available. This is changing, as I knew it would, and options are starting to pop up. Even though there are some options out there, I’ve always wanted to create my own vegan product. I worked with a food consultant 2 years ago and we actually did one round of R&D. It was successful, but I didn’t have the money at the time to continue. I recently contacted this fabulous food consultant and she is still interested in pursuing this with me. There is a lot of science that goes into this as well, and I found another consultant for that who I was in touch with 2 years ago as well. I’m happy to say he is onboard. Now I just have to finalize my agreements with them and hopefully we can get started.

It’s pretty exciting. The vegan product is very important to this business and we need it to be healthy and tasty. My plan was to offer around 50% traditional flavors and 50% vegan flavors, but if we can create a lot of good vegan flavors and the cost isn’t outrageous to produce, maybe I would offer all or almost all vegan flavors. Hmmmm. Luckily, I don’t have to decide that now. Just need some kick ass flavors and go from there. This won’t be easy but I’m excited to give it a shot.
